I want to share a story that will hopefully change the way you look at the ideas of building a business, creating ‘content’, and serving humanity.
A couple of weeks ago I received a package to the Archangel headquarters.
I absolutely love surprises, so I quickly opened the wrapping and inside was a wonderful book about dragons, but no card or explanation about who it was from.
When I opened the book, a sheet of paper fell out.
It was an 8.5×11 piece of paper with a handwritten note that filled both sides of the sheet.
The letter (and gift) were from a woman named Anik.
I had never spoken with Anik, and she wasn’t a client, but the letter shared how much of an impact I and Archangel had made in her life.
I’ll share a quick passage from the letter, and you can see the entire letter below.
Anik writes:
“I receive hundreds of emails every day, and of course I don’t read them all, but ever time I see your name in my Inbox, I read your message, every word of it in fact, because I know how inspired I will feel after reading it. So thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so deeply grateful for all of your teachings!”
The reason I’m sharing this with you is because it is a wonderful example of what I call ‘Gifted Marketing’ – the idea of sharing your ‘Gift’ with others to create an impact, even before they ever become a client – (even if they NEVER become a client) – to the point where they feel called to thank you for the impact you’re creating in their lives.
It’s the opposite of what I call ‘Bully Marketing’, which is so prevalent in what gets taught by many people in the marketing space.
If you see or hear the word ‘marketing’ and it gives you anxiety or any other negative feeling, you’re thinking about Bully Marketing.
You want to use your Gift to create empathy and trust and build amazing relationships that eventually build an aligned business which creates epic transformations.
Marketing should make you smile and feel joy because it’s creating transformations.
